Orpheus Cares - An opportunity to help local kids from under-served communities

Orpheus Musical Theatre Society is proud to give back to the community in many ways. Beginning in 2016, the Orpheus Cares initiative has partnered with local charities to raise funds for worthy causes that make a real difference in our community.

This year – in conjunction with Orpheus’ production of the fantabulous “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (November 16-25, 2018) – Orpheus Cares will be supporting OrKidstra, a local, Ottawa-based charity, which focuses on social development through music. OrKidstra gives kids from under-served communities the chance to learn important life skills (such as teamwork, commitment, respect and pride in achievement) through playing and singing music together.

OrKidstra accomplishes their mission by providing children from under-privileged communities with free group and individual music lessons, instruments and performance opportunities to which they might not otherwise have access. With the passionate belief in the transformative power of music, OrKidstra started with 27 children in 2007 and now includes more than 700 children, ages 5 to 18, from over 42 linguistic and cultural backgrounds (# 83246 7153 RR0001). Learn more by visiting orkidstra.ca

During the run of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” audience members will be given the opportunity to learn more about and support the work of OrKidstra. In addition, youth from OrKidstra will be entertaining patrons with live music in the lobby of the Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe prior to and/or at intermission of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” at select performances. In high-demand for their energy and musicianship, OrKidstra has performed on the JUNO awards broadcast, on Parliament Hill as part of the Canada Day 150 Celebrations and many more. Live performances by OrKidstra is just one of the many reasons to get your tickets early for “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”!

Artistic & Executive Director and Co-Founder of OrKidstra (and Orpheus alumni) Tina Fedeski, M.S.M. says “We are very grateful to everyone involved with Orpheus Musical Theatre Society, and to all the Orpheus patrons, for their support for empowering local kids and building community through the universal language of music. Thank you for your FANTASMAGORICAL support!”
