Now Recruiting: Treasurer, Board of Directors
Orpheus Musical Theatre is also seeking a committed, financially savvy leader to serve as Treasurer on our Board of Directors.
This important governance role helps ensure that Orpheus remains financially strong, transparent, and equipped to fulfill its mission of creating exceptional musical theatre for our community.
Role Overview
The Treasurer oversees all financial matters of Orpheus in accordance with good practice, our governing documents, and legal requirements. Reporting regularly to the Board and Society, the Treasurer helps ensure the organization has the financial resources and oversight needed to thrive.
The Treasurer also chairs the Budget and Finance Committee and plays a key leadership role in maintaining effective financial controls, procedures, and long-term sustainability.
Time Commitment
Board Meetings: Monthly (approximately 2 hours)
Budget & Finance Committee: As required (approximately 1 hour)
Ongoing Duties: 3–6 hours per week depending on reporting cycles and production activity
Annual Meeting: Once per year
Term Length: Completing Year 1 of a 3-year term, with the option for election at the next Annual Meeting in Fall 2026. This is a volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all financial matters of the organization in alignment with legal and governance requirements

Report regularly to the Board and Society on Orpheus’ financial health

Chair the Budget and Finance Committee

Maintain accurate bookkeeping practices
-
Manage operational finances, including expenditures, revenues, and reporting

Liaise with the Auditor and support year-end processes
-
Serve as one of four authorized cheque signers on the operations account
-
Serve as one of three authorized cheque signers on investment accounts
-
Submit financial statements and reports to the Board as required
-
Ensure effective financial controls, procedures, and risk-management practices are in place
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
-
Strong financial and business acumen
-
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management
-
Ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly
-
High level of integrity, reliability, and attention to detail
-
Comfort working with accounting software and spreadsheets
Preferred:
-
Experience with Not-for-Profit and/or charity financial practices
-
Familiarity with audits, year-end reporting, and investment oversight

Previous board or committee experience
