Nominations Now Open for the 2026 - 2027 Board of Directors
Orpheus Musical Theatre is seeking passionate, engaged community members to serve on our Board of Directors, to be elected at the Annual Meeting of the Membership in the fall of 2026 (date TBD).
The Board plays a vital role in guiding the organization’s artistic and organizational future. Working collaboratively, Board members help shape strategic priorities, oversee the Society’s operations and finances, support season planning and production decisions, and ensure Orpheus remains a strong, sustainable community theatre for generations to come.
Serving on the Board is an opportunity to contribute your skills, experience, and enthusiasm while helping advance the mission and long-term success of one of Canada’s longest-running community theatre organizations.
We welcome nominations from members and individuals who are committed to the growth, governance, and continued success of Orpheus Musical Theatre.
How To Submit a Nomination
Nominations will be accepted until July 10, 2026.
To submit a nomination, please email recruitment@orpheusmusicaltheatre.ca and include:

A brief statement outlining why the nominee would be a strong candidate for the role
If you are nominating someone other than yourself, please ensure you have discussed the nomination with them before submitting it.
Nominating Committee
Chair: Katrina Roberts, Recruitment Director
Members: Murray Doggett, Maritie Lord-Galway, Ann-Marie Haley, Susan Cole, and Jaime McCarthy.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for recruiting and recommending a strong slate of candidates for election to the Board of Directors. Through this process, the Committee helps identify individuals whose skills, experience, and passion will support the continued growth and success of Orpheus Musical Theatre.

Available Positions for Election
Treasurer (2 Years Remaining in a 3-Year Term)
Current Status: Vacant following the resignation of James Baxter
The Treasurer provides leadership and oversight of the Society’s financial affairs. Responsibilities include budgeting, financial reporting, monitoring organizational finances, supporting long-term financial sustainability, and chairing the Budget & Finance Committee. The Treasurer works closely with staff, the Board, and the Auditor to ensure strong financial stewardship and accountability.

Secretary (3-Year Term)
Incumbent: Debbie Guilbeault (seeking re-election)
The Secretary plays a key governance role on the Board, ensuring the organization maintains accurate records, meets corporate compliance requirements, and follows established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include supporting Board meetings, maintaining official documentation, overseeing governance processes, and serving as a signing officer of the Society.

Director Without Portfolio (3-Year Term)
Incumbent: Deb Miller-Smith (seeking re-election)
This flexible leadership position allows an individual to contribute their skills and experience to a variety of organizational priorities. The Director Without Portfolio supports strategic initiatives, participates in committees and projects, and helps advance the goals outlined in Orpheus Musical Theatre’s Strategic Plan.

Director of Member Development (3-Year Term)
Incumbent: Hannah Gorham-Smith (seeking re-election)
The Director of Member Development focuses on strengthening the member and volunteer experience. This role supports training and development opportunities, oversees member-focused programming and events, and helps foster a welcoming, engaged, and sustainable community within Orpheus.

Director at Large (2-Year Term)
Incumbent: Jesse Gervais-Weedmark (seeking re-election)
The Director at Large provides broad organizational leadership and contributes expertise to Board discussions, committees, and strategic initiatives. Candidates with experience in areas such as governance, strategic planning, diversity and inclusion, arts policy, communications, or organizational development are encouraged to consider this role.

Time Commitment
Board service requires a meaningful commitment of time and engagement. Most Directors can expect to dedicate approximately 15–20 hours per month, depending on the role and time of year.
This commitment includes Board and committee meetings, meeting preparation, strategic planning activities, production support, and participation in membership and community events. Board service is conducted through a combination of in-person and virtual meetings.
