Cancellation of A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Last night, the Orpheus Board of Directors met via video-conference to plan for our immediate future during these uncertain times.  Many of you know that we had made the difficult decision to cancel the final 3 performances of Rock of Ages.  We also postponed our planned audition process for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder until we had a chance to fully assess the impact of the public health situation on our ability to prepare for the extreme high quality of shows for which we are known.

Now that we have a better appreciation for the national, provincial and municipal efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the tough decision to cancel our upcoming production of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder planned for May 29 - Jun 7, 2020. We hope to reschedule this production to a future season.

The unpredictability of the current public health emergency jeopardized our ability to provide a safe environment for our hard-working volunteers. Additionally, with no imminent end to this public health threat, we had no way of knowing when we could possibly even start our production cycle.  It became clear that even if we tried to proceed with a compressed rehearsal/production schedule, we would undoubtedly compromise the high technical and performance standards we have all worked so hard to achieve and our audiences have come to expect.

To our valued subscribers and those who have already bought tickets, we will be working with our partners to offer refunds.  Please be patient as the staff at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe are also subject to provincial shutdowns and will need time to coordinate this major task. Please note that our subscription renewal letters will also be delayed.

To our incredibly dedicated production team for Gentleman’s Guide who have already invested so much personal time and effort into preparing for this show, we thank-you for the passion you have brought to this enthusiastic, highly motivated team.

To all of our Orpheus family of Angels, members, and volunteers, we understand that your personal and working lives have undoubtedly been greatly impacted as well.  Our thoughts are with you as you deal with these challenges.

No matter what your involvement is with Orpheus, we all share the same passion to produce and perform high quality musical theatre. We look forward to safer times when we can all work together to do what we do best - entertain our loyal and appreciative musical theatre audiences.

Until then, please stay safe and respect the advice of our public health officials!

On behalf of the Orpheus Board of Directors

Murray Doggett President
