Orpheus would like to congratulate the following recipients of the Ontario Volunteer Awards and thank them for their many years of dedicated service to Orpheus.
ROB PUCHYR – 25 YEARS
Rob first volunteered for Orpheus in the 1993 production of Guys and Dolls at the High School of Commerce. He volunteered during Orpheus' first season at Centrepointe in 1995 and has been a steady contributor ever since. He has worked as fly operator, stage crew, spot operator, lighting designer, props designer and stage manager. His shows include Falsettos, Rock of Ages, Grease, Shrek, Ragtime, A Chorus Line, Anne of Green Gables, Fiddler on the Roof, Legally Blonde, Carousel, Rent, Annie, Little Women, Fame, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Guys and Dolls, Meet Me in St, Louis, West Side Story, Damn Yankees, and Sweet Charity.
PAUL MATTHEW – 20 YEARS
Paul’s first Orpheus show was A Little Night Music in 2000 as a Centrepointe volunteer and he as worked on every main stage show since. In 2004, he worked as an Orphean, costumed stage crew on Annie Get Your Gun. Notable show contributions include The Drowsy Chaperone, Carousel, Young Frankenstein, A Chorus Line, Ragtime, Mamma Mia!, Sister Act and Rock of Ages. He is well known as "Paul the Fly Guy" working the pin rail. When he's not backstage, he can be found in the booth, stage-managing the show.
GABE LEURY – 15 YEARS
Gabe got his start with Orpheus on stage in the 2002 production of Cinderella. He has since performed in Grease, Rags, 9 to 5, Fame, Beauty and the Beast, The Spirit of Orpheus and Sweet Charity. His production team credits include Shrek, Annie Get Your Gun, The Producers, Hairspray, Grease, Sister Act, Victor/Victoria, Guys and Dolls, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Addams Family and Matilda. His roles have included music director and production assistant.
KIM MACDONALD – 15 YEARS
Kim has been volunteering with Orpheus since 1998, when she helped to paint drops for Singing in the Rain. She is well known as an assistant stage manager, making sure that Orpheus shows run smoothly from the wings. She has held this role in many shows including Matilda, Rent, Grease, Catch Me If You Can, The Addams Family, Anne of Green Gables, Young Frankenstein and Footloose. Kim has also volunteered in many other roles including stage crew, props crew, set construction, load in/out and stage manager.
ALISON FOLEY – 10 YEARS
Alison first appeared on an Orpheus stage in the 2010 production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Since then, she has performed in Spring Awakening, Footloose and Titanic. Alison is also a regular contributor in the costume department, having worked on Shrek, Sister Act, Matilda and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She has volunteered as producer or production assistant on A Chorus Line, Legally Blonde, The Drowsy Chaperone and Rent. Alison also served on the Board of Directors as Director of Marketing.
MICHAEL SCHILDER – 10 YEARS
Mike’s first Orpheus performance was in Anne of Green Gables in 1999. He has also contributed his performance skills to Orpheus' productions of Matilda, Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, Footloose, The Full Monty, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oliver! and Rags. He has been on production teams for Rock of Ages, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Titanic, The Producers, West Side Story, Little Women, Ragtime, and Annie. Michael is a frequent volunteer in the wings supporting the show as stage crew. More recently, he has been involved with the publicity committee as well as organizing the Orpheus Website including the cast and crew database.
Orpheus would not have the long-standing success that it has without the skills, hard work and commitment of all of our great volunteers. These volunteers were honoured today (February 9, 2021) at a special virtual ceremony.
